CODE: KA02
This
tour departs Darwin during December to April Mondays and
Wednesdays
Day 1
(L/D)
08:00 Depart Darwin for a 2 day tour into Kakadu National Park and Arnhem
Land. Travel via Fogg Dam and Adelaide River Wetlands.
The wetland and
floodplains of the region are home to many species of birds, animals and reptiles.
Continue to the Bark Hut Inn for a comfort stop.
Enter Kakadu National Park via the giant termite mounds along the Arnhem highway, crossing the South Alligator River, a huge tidal river system within the Park and continue on to the Bowali
Visitor and Information Centre. Bowali provides visitors with a wealth of information and displays on the Park and its habitats.
A picnic lunch will be served en route.
Depart Bowali for Nourlangie Rock, an ancient Aboriginal art and
occupational living shelter. Groups of Aboriginals made this
area one where they would make camp and utilise the natural
resources. Paintings of animals, insects and people completed years ago now help us to record human occupation in the region. Your guide will give detailed explanations of the art and area.
A short drive from Nourlangie takes us to the Nawalandja lookout. From here you get a spectacular view of the surrounding area and the Arnhem
Land escarpment.
Enjoy the changing colours on Nourlangie and the Arnhem Land escarpment with the
possibility of experiencing one of nature’s greatest light shows
across the area known as ”Lightning Dreaming” before making our
way into Jabiru and tonight’s accommodation at the Lakeview Bush
Bungalows.
Overnight: Lakeview Bush Bungalows, Jabiru
Day 2 (B/L)
This morning after breakfast we depart Jabiru for a truly memorable and unique day.
From the Jabiru airport we join our spectacular scenic flight across the Arnhem
Land escarpment and East Alligator River area to Arnhem Land and the Aboriginal community of Gunbalanya.
Upon arrival at Gunbalanya we will be met by the Injalak guides who will welcome you before continuing on for a special tour throughout the community and its surrounds.
Gunbalanya is steeped in history from ancient Aboriginal culture, dreaming and rock art to the more recent history of
buffalo shooters and early missionaries.
This morning we will also have the opportunity to visit the world-renowned Injalak arts and craft centre where you will have the opportunity to meet with local traditional
artist’s and also be able to purchase authentic aboriginal art direct from the Aboriginal-owned
Art Centre.
Return to the Gunbalanya airport approximately midday for your scenic flight returning to Jabiru.
